The main objective of this project is the development of a methodology for the prediction of the picking time of apple and pear for long storage, based on a combination of fruit growth models, phenological measurements and NIR-reflectance spectroscopy. The predictions should (i) be parcel specific, (ii) be available early in the season (from the moment of fruit set), (iii) be continuously improved during the growing season and (iv) be consulted online in a simple way by the grower.
