Variety testing
Smart evaluation of new fruit varieties.
New varieties, mutants or rootstocks are evaluated via a 4 stage stagegate process to evaluate their properties and optimize plant management practices like fertilisation, crop protection, thinning/fruit set and pruning. An economic evaluation of selected cropping systems can be reported.
Is a new variety in development? We assess the following aspects:
- Yield and fruit quality at harvest, after storage and during shelf life
- Flavour and appearance
- Susceptibility to diseases
- Vegetative growth and development
- Phenology
- Frost susceptibility
- Virus status and health of the plant material
In addition, an economic evaluation of selected cultivation systems can be carried out.
