IMG%5F5186%2Ejpg Epidemiological en etiological research of twig scab on pear as a base for a rational and ecological well-considered control strategy (mycology)
The main goal of the project of the department of mycology of pcfruit is a thorough study of the pear scab fungi (biology, sensitivity of different plant parts and cultivars, dispersal of the fungi an infection conditions, the pathogenicity and characterization of different biotypes) to unravel the life of the fungi and to develop a better control strategy. A better control strategy means a reduced fungicide use and a reduction of fungicide residu on the fruits at harvest, without a reduction of the quality of the fruits and cost effectiveness for the fruitgrower. Special attention in the project goes to the role and the control of twig scab.
vruchtrotevaluatie%2Ejpg Antioxidants metabolism in apple in relation to the sensitivity towards fruit rot and functional nutritional value (mycology)
Apple cultivars differ substantially in vitamin C an antioxidant levels. Recently it was shown that vitamin C and oxidant level of the fruits are positive correlated with longer storability and also a higher resistance towards the infection of Botrytis cinerea. This project wants to unravel the components of the antioxidant metabolism responsible for cultivar difference on the level of storability and disease resistance.
etoxvlek%2EJPG Uniformity and dose reduction of postharvest treatments during cold storage of pome fruit (mycology)
Facing postharvest fungicide treatments next to dipping / drenching there is a new interest towards postharvest fogging in the cold storage room. A postharvest treatment by fogging (thermonebulisation) has several advantages compared to preharvest sprayings in the orchard decreasing the environmental and ecological impact. ...
anthracnose%20on%20strawberry%20fruit%2Ejpg Control of Strawberry anthracnose based on the aetiology and epidemiology of Colletotrichum acutatum. (Myology)
Anthracnose is caused by fungi of the genus Colletotrichum, which is a very common group of plant pathogens which are responsible for diseases on numerous plant species. The aim of this project is to develop a new strawberry anthracnose control strategy that will lead to an economic reliable and durable management of fruit rot in strawberry production.
penicillium%2Ejpg Post harvest control of fungal fruit rot. (Mycology)

In the framework of the GMO-program sponsored by fruitgrower organisations E.F.C., Fruitbiz.be, LTV and Profruco, a research program was started in January 2004 for evaluating postharvest treatment techniques to prevent fruit from decaying. Also diagnostic research is done on the process water of wet grading machines.

stemphylium%203%2Ejpg Development of a DSS for the control of brown spot on pear. (Mycology)

Brown spot is a new fungal disease on pear in Belgium. The objective of this IWT funded project is setting up a durable control strategy against this disease, adjusted for Belgium climate conditions.
