This research station is the co-ordinating organisation of the research and advisory services of fruit growing situated on three locations in Limburg (Belgium).
Within RSF there are many research activities such as:
What are the latest, most delicious and most productive varieties of cherries, strawberries, apples or pears?
How can high quality fruit be realised with a minimum of spraying?
How can the orchard be made attractive to birds of prey, predatory mites and bugs?
Are there new crop protection methods for the near future?
What are the prospects for biological fruit growing?
Mission of RSF
We want to give additional value to fruit growing by carrying out applied scientific research and experimental research, by collecting information, transferring information, and services, taking into account the social developments.

History:
In 1996 the first initiatives were taken to create managerial and administrative co-operation between the Royal Research Station of Gorsem and the two experimental gardens, Experimental Garden for Small Fruits Tongeren, and Experimental Garden for Pome and Stone Fruits Velm.
Consequently RSF becomes a unit including applied scientific research, experimental research and advisory services. The long term objective is to accommodate all entities in one location.
Logo of pcfruit
Our logo refers to the blossom, the common feature of all varieties of fruit, the base of fruit.
The red dot in the middle of the flower is also referring to the setting of fruit and to the formation of RSF.
The three lobes of the flower refer to the three entities which are the foundation of the RSF, i.e. Royal Research Station of Gorsem, Experimental Garden for Pome and Stone Fruits and Experimental Garden for Small Fruits. When counting the leaves, the number six represents the number of the RSF departments. The flower as a whole is the symbol of an atom, this symbol is used to emphasise the scientific foundation of our organisation.
Directors:
RSF has one common Board of Management and one General Meeting, made up for different departments, equally composed of all interest groups of fruit growing. Especially these managers, fruit-growers represented by auctions and professional associations,…… are checking if the financial means are really used for the benefit of the Belgian Fruit Growing, as well in short as in long term.
Chairman board of management : Deputy Marc Vandeput
General Manager : René Ginckels
